FBI agent Kat Bronsky uncovers a conspiracy to send planes falling from the sky in this riveting thriller from New York Times–bestselling author John J. Nance
A Boeing/McDonnell-Douglas MD-11 jetliner crashes into the Gulf of Mexico a mile inside Cuban waters, killing all three hundred and twenty passengers onboard. The last three minutes on the plane’s cockpit voice and data recorders have been erased. Was this a massive mechanical failure or an act of terrorism?
At an air terrorism conference, FBI agent Kat Bronsky learns Washington Post reporter Robert McCabe has received frightening information about the MD-11 crash from a source that mysteriously disappeared. When another airliner goes down after its pilots are flash-blinded midflight, Bronsky and McCabe find themselves at the center of what might be a deadly government cover-up.
Unable to trust her colleagues at the FBI, Bronsky must rely on her own wits and piloting skills as she races from the jungles of Vietnam to the forests of the American Northwest to unmask the conspirators before the entire American airline industry comes crashing out of the sky.
John J. Nance is in top form with this suspense-charged, action-packed novel that solidifies his reputation as the king of the aviation thriller.

Blackout The Kat Bronsky Thrillers Book 2 edition by John J Nance Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks
This is the type of book I enjoy reading when I have a lot on my mind and, to be honest, don't have the patience to read something that requires deep thinking. It is well written, suspenseful, and interesting (though he author's descriptions of the mechanics of flying various types of aircraft and instrument panels take up a large percentage of the text.)The book consists of one chase scene after another. The characters are caricatures, as is so often the case in this type of plot driven thriller. I can perfectly see this novel as a 1960's (Posidon Adventure) type film--each character having one or two defining qualities--the handsome Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, the beautiful FBI agent, the loud, busy-body passenger with a heart of gold, the mis-understood, obnoxious 14 y.o. who just happens to know how to fly a 747, etc.
I felt that the end summed things up too quickly and neatly. I would rather have seen the author spend more time throughout the book developing the characters and the particulars of the plot lines.

Blackout The Kat Bronsky Thrillers Book 2 edition by John J Nance Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Reminds me loosely of Arthur Hailey's "Airport." Great suspense and thoroughly enjoyable. This is a book I'll keep and re-read every four or five years. This story will be just as enjoyable 20 years from now as it is today. Technology and aircraft will certainly change, but good story telling will always be good story telling. Definitely recommended.
This book and the other Kat Bronsky book, The Last Hostage, are a wonderful way to escape a dreary winter weekend. I love all the John J Nance books I have read, and these did not disappoint. The plot twists keep you reading as fast as you can turn the pages and also leave you a tiny bit uneasy about taking an airplane ride.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book and have bought the next one. It was action from the start and every page brought a new exciting development. Whether you believe the plot is far fetched or not and you could bend either way it is one of the best escapism novels I've read for a while. Can't wait to read the next book.
Its the first Nance book I've read where its not all based on the plane.... Its well written and I really do love that he reads the books himself. the emotions are translated through the voice inflections.
John Nance's newest book is a pulse pounding chase book which only falters (slightly) at the end. Kat Bronsky, the FBI's best known and most attractive hostage negotiator finds herself in Hong Kong to address a symposium on terrorisim when she is drawn into a a life and death struggle with unknown forces who are causing airliners to crash. Her chance meeting with Robert McCabe, a Pulitzer prize-winning journalist from the Washington Post is the beginning of some deadly events beginning with the crash of a 747 that Kat is supposed to be on and the Robert is on. The plane is brought down by a mystery weapon which blinds the pilots. Six survive the crash and the rest of the book is given over to their trying to escape the unknown forces that are trying to kill them because of what they have seen and because of what they believe McCabe has stored in his computer about them. The book sails along from encounter and escape in Viet Nam all the way to Idaho and in so doing it is a real page turner. My only problem is that I thought the ending was a little too pat after such a complicated build up and it also seemed reminiscent of another book I have read. It's still well worth your time and money. When the story is in the air, Nance is at his best.
The stupid thing reads like "The Perils of Pauline." One disaster after another with the characters doing absurd things and escaping situations that certainly would be deadly in real life. On the other hand Mr. Nance at least knows the difference between the verbs "to lie" and "to lay," and between "who" and "whom." It's a real page turner until you realize you're wasting part of your life reading this garbage.
A really good novel depends on the reader suspending disbelief. This one left me saying to myself, "C'mon!" on nearly every page.
The heroine of the piece, FBI agent Kat Bronsky is way too good to be true. I expected her at any moment to rip off her blouse and reveal herself as Super Girl or Wonder Woman.
Starts out the author shares with us that she has a degree in psychology. OK. She specializes in terrorism. OK. She has a small aircraft pilot's license, OK. One interesting side note - this novel was written before 9/11...but at one point one of the characters hypothesizes terrorists taking off from JFK and flying into the world trade center. Maybe the real FBI should've paid attention.
Later she has to pilot a helicopter and, oh, by the way, she had a few hours of helicopter training. Then she's required to pilot a business jet and guess what? Yep, she's qualified on twin engine jet.
This nonsense just goes on and on, ruining for me at least, what is a pretty good plot. Also, one narrow escape after another often depending on way implausible coincidences further ruins the experience.
I know a lot of people really liked this book, but I'm not one of them.
A female super James Bond....and that's not a good thing.
